The CFMEU welcomes the opportunity for input to the Senate Economics Committee re the Minerals Resource Rent Tax Bill 2011 and related bills.
The introduction of resource rent taxation is long overdue and is one of the more obvious and pressing economic reforms that should be pursued by government.
The CFMEU broadly supports an efficient and effective taxation regime that is progressive, redistributive, enables sustainable growth and the achievement of social justice and equal opportunity.
Australia's mineral wealth belongs to its people and they should receive a good return for its exploitation.
While extensive, our mineral resources are not unlimited...
