Stunning shareholder protest vote at Rio Tinto AGMs

The Coalition of Rio Tinto Shareholders was launched in March 2000 to sponsor shareholder resolutions for the May Annual General Meetings of Rio Tinto Plc (in the United Kingdom) and Rio Tinto Ltd (in Australia).
The Coalition's first campaign has concluded with the announcement of the voting results for these meetings (see above).
The resolutions were aimed at improving the standards of corporate governance within the company, and at ensuring the company complies with international human rights standards in its workplaces. The sponsors firmly believe that the adoption of the resolutions by the company will reduce risks for investors and strengthen growth opportunities.
