West Cliff industrial action called off after CFMEU, bosses make concessions

Coalmine workers at the West Cliff Colliery have called off planned industrial action after the CFMEU and mine operator BHP Billiton made concessions during negotiations on Tuesday afternoon.

Union members have withdrawn their intention for the mine’s 300 workers to take seven days of protected action from tomorrow morning after progress was made on both sides.

Until late Monday, four-month long negotiations over a new Enterprise Agreement had reached an impasse over BHP Billiton’s refusal to bring wages in line with other mines the company owns.

The CFMEU is pleased both sides were able to bargain properly before the planned industrial action, with union delegates looking forward to returning to negotiations in good faith to reach a final resolution.
